Six held as CTD foils bid to fan sectarian flames in Karachi

KARACHI: Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday arrested six suspects accused of planning target killing of several leaders of a religious party to create sectarian unrest in Karachi, ARY News reported.

According to details, CTD has foiled nefarious design of creating sectarian unrest in Ramazan by arresting the six suspects and recovered large number of weapons from their possession.

Without naming the religious party, SSP CTD said the suspects wanted to target scholars, muftis and other leaders of ‘a big religious party’. The suspects had changed their appearances according to the religious party. They had also made fake national identity cards.

He said the arrested suspects had recced and given biodata of 160 persons to their military wing. Lives of the160 persons are at risk.

The SSP said the suspects had attacked central leader of Ahle Sunnat Waljamat Molana Aurangzaib Farooqui in 2012.

CTD also told substantial progress had been made in qawwal Amjad Sabri’s murder case. The murder could be on ground of personal enmity or target killing.
